I survived the first week!!

I survived the first week of first grade. I came home exhausted the first day, but it was definitely worth it. My class had fun making our school buses out of zingers and gummy life savers and playing with our magic play dough. We even did our first journal entry on Friday. I was so tired by Friday, but you forget how tired you are when five of them come running up to you with the biggest smiles on their faces.
Grandpa and Grandma Jones donated 30 beanie babies to my classroom. My first graders get so excited to use them. One of their fast finisher things they can do is choose a beanie baby to read to. They love this. They pick a book out of my library, and position the beanie baby on their lap, (they have to make sure the beanie baby can see the book, of course!!) and they read to them. It is so cute to see how they get so excited about books! I was so fortunate to have my grandma and grandpa donate those to my classroom. They came in last year to my fourth graders and brought them all a beanie baby. My fourth graders ended up calling my grandpa, Grandpa Beanie Baby the whole year. They loved my grandparents!

I get to end my perfect day coming home to my dog Jeter. It is sad because he is in his kennel all day. He is the kind of dog that loves being outside, so we try to take him places in the evenings so he can get his energy out. He is definitely a dog that needs lots of attention.

Where did summer go?

I can't believe how fast summer has gone. When I made this blog, I thought I was always going to be on top of it. Life is so crazy though that the time flies. During the summer, Tyson and I have been to vegas twice. Once for the Kenny Chesney concert, and once with Tyson's family. I also went to California with my family for my cousin's wedding. I forgot how much I enjoyed the beach. It was so fun jumping in the waves. While I was in California, Tyson sent me this video of Jeter.

School is starting up soon and I still feel like there is so much to get done for my first grade classroom. It has been fun decorating my classroom and meeting with my team to plan the year. My mom did remind me the other day of something. She said, "remember, they are only first graders. You could have four or five crying all at once the first day!" I didn't experience that last year with my fourth graders. This year will probably be quite an experience. I am so excited though and can't wait to meet my class.
I am always on the internet trying to find ideas for first grade. I came across these cute crayons that you can make for the students to take home and eat. They are just pretzels dipped in chocolate and wrapped in paper. They are so cute.

In all, things are going great and I really want to try to post more often! We'll see how it goes when I start first grade! Wish me luck!
